How to Prepare for Junk Removal Day

A room-by-room access checklist that helps a junk removal crew quote and load the right items without avoidable delays.

Household items staged beside an 865 Junk trailer

The best preparation is simple: decide what leaves, protect what stays, and clear a safe route from each item to the truck. You do not need to drag everything outside unless the crew asks you to.

Start with one complete walkthrough

Walk the property before the appointment and mark the full scope. Open closets, garages, attics, and storage rooms that are part of the job. A forgotten room can change the trailer space and time needed after the quote has already been discussed.

Use two labels only: take and keep. A third “maybe” pile slows decisions while the crew is waiting, so settle those items before arrival or place them in a separate room.

Pickup-day access checklist

AreaCheck before arrival
Driveway or loading zoneMove vehicles and leave enough room for the trailer without blocking neighbors or emergency access.
Doors and hallwaysRemove rugs, lamps, toys, and fragile objects from the path.
StairsClear every tread and tell the crew about tight turns or weak railings.
Pets and childrenKeep them away from doors, lifting routes, and the loading area.
Gates and elevatorsUnlock access, reserve elevators if required, and have codes or keys ready.
Personal itemsRemove documents, medication, keys, jewelry, photographs, and devices you intend to keep.

Do not create a hazardous pile

Keep fuels, oil, antifreeze, pesticides, wet paint, pool chemicals, and similar products separate from ordinary junk. The City of Knoxville says household hazardous waste includes products labeled toxic, poison, corrosive, reactive, flammable, combustible, or irritant, and directs residents to its Household Hazardous Waste facility instead of household trash.

Do not pour out containers, combine chemicals, or hide them inside boxes. Tell the crew what you found and use the responsible local program for anything outside the hauler’s scope.

Five details to send before the appointment

  1. The pickup address and whether the property is occupied.
  2. The largest or heaviest items.
  3. Stairs, elevators, long carries, gates, or limited parking.
  4. Anything that needs disassembly or has connected utilities.
  5. Your hard deadline, if another contractor, closing, or move depends on the space.

Once those details are clear, the junk removal service page explains what happens during the on-site quote and loading process. If you are ready to talk through the list, use the booking details or call directly.
